Occasional thoughts

I have often thought about Judas and in some ways feel he has had a bad press. I wrote this on Good Friday 3 years ago. What do you think?

1. What made Judas do what he did?
   was it just to make a few quid?
   if it was simply a matter of greed,
   then that resonates with most people’s creed.
2. Did he do it to force the hand
   of Jesus, who had it all planned?
   in his sandals would I have done the same?
   and so, the world would revile my name.
3. When he tried to turn back the clock,
   after the horror caused by the shock.
   He tried to undo as much as he could,
   but could not prevent the shedding of blood.
4. What were his prayers before the end?
   Prayers for himself and his close friend?
   did he have time to confess and repent,
   in those last moments as his life was spent?
5. When I reach heaven, by God’s grace,
   I hope that I will find a place,
   reserved there for Judas despite it all,
   as I too have betrayed my Christian call
