Halloweeen

Halloween was mentioned by the Minster I’n Church yesterday when he voiced some of his disquiet over the way it is ‘celebrated’ in our society today and I have to say I share those sentiments.

As well as some of the disturbing concepts and images shared around and commercialised it detracts from the message of All Saints Day. One article that covers some of the essence of All Saints Day can be seen at

As I thought about it I was reminded of something I wrote on the subject of Saints a few years ago

Saint or Sinner

1. Saint or sinner? Who decides

which we are in God’s eyes?

I have known Saints in my life;

One, I don’t doubt, is my wife.

2.We all have sinned, look, and see

In Romans three and twenty-three.

A Saint is one justified

By Jesus who for us died.

3.Saint or Sinner, which am I?

My sins I cannot deny.

Saint? I believe I can be,

through the one who died for me.

4.Saint or Sinner, which are you?

A Sinner? Yes, it is true.

Saint? Yes, if you only would,

ask forgiveness through Christ’s blood.

5.Once forgiven we receive,

God’s spirit to help as we live.

Put aside the sin we’ve known.

Seek to live for Christ alone.

6.If your Halo slips today,

bow your head and simply pray

for Gods all atoning grace,

now and then through all our days.
